Mentoring
How do I apply?
We welcome applications to the Career Mentoring Scheme throughout the year and would encourage those that are interested, to return the application form (word document) or application form (pdf ) as soon as possible. Please either complete and save the word document and email to Linda Holdsworth or post back to us at Career Development Services, University of Bradford, Bradford, BD7 1DP.
The main recruitment period runs from April – September, but individuals often apply at various times throughout the year, depending on when they find out about the scheme. We aim to match each employer (mentor) to an appropriate student (mentee) in October so we would recommend that you submit your application as early as possible.
The majority of mentoring partnerships run from November to April with a slight deviation, depending on semester dates and levels of application. Although we cannot guarantee that we will find you an appropriate mentee, we will do all that we can to find a suitable match.
Tips for completing the application form
We look closely at each application form to assess the commitment and motivation levels of prospective mentors. Therefore we would recommend that you;
- Remember that we are looking for commitment and motivation to take part in the scheme, not prior experience, so consider how you can best evidence this.
- Explain why you are an ideal candidate i.e. is this down to your commitment, interest, network of colleagues, availability etc?
- Consider attaching your CV to demonstrate your background and skills and support the matching process. (All detail will be held confidentially, in line with the Data Protection Act).
- Be specific in stating what areas you are able to offer support in. This will allow us to match partnerships based on your interests and motivations, as much as the mentees!
- Provide as much information as possible on past / prior experience as this is often as important to the matching process as your current role and responsibilities.
If you have any questions relating to your application, or want to know more about the scheme, please contact Linda Holdsworth, Career Development Adviser on 01274 235507 or e-mail her at l.holdsworth4@bradford.ac.uk
