Myers-Briggs Type Indicator®

Developed by Katharine Briggs and her daughter Isabel Briggs Myers, the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® is based on the theoretical work of Carl Jung’s theory of personality.

The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® (MBTI®) is a versatile tool, which provides individuals and teams with a powerful understanding of their own and others’ personality style.

By understanding the differences between personality types, groups and individuals are able to work together more effectively, improving communication and reducing conflict.

Through completion of the questionnaire the assessment will reveal characteristics unique to each personality type. This will show the individual how they interact with others and how they deal with all kinds of real-life situations.

The MBTI dimensions explore the following features:

E - I

Extraversion or Introversion

Where you prefer to get and focus your 'energy' or attention

S - N

Sensing or Intuition

The kind of information you prefer to gather and trust

T - F

Thinking or Feeling

The process you prefer to use in coming to decisions

J - P

Judging or Perceiving

How you prefer to deal with the world around, your 'lifestyle'

You can complete an online version of the Myers Briggs Type Indicator on the Team Technology website www.teamtechnology.co.uk.  There are also detailed descriptions of the 16 different personality types and information on personality type and team roles.

The Careers Service also occasionally runs workshops on the MBTI. Check out our workshops list for details.
